A Local, Independent Non-profit
It’s a common misconception that we (FCHS) are part of our local government or affiliated with national organizations like the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) or the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). However, FCHS is a completely independent, local nonprofit organization. We do not receive government funding—local, state, or federal. Instead, we depend solely on your generousity and our dedicated volunteers. This independence allows us to focus on local needs, working directly within our community to find loving homes for distressed animals. Your donations help cover the cost of food, shelter, and medical for the animals in our care. Your support makes it all possible—click this link to help save lives.
Our Commitment to Animal Welfare

At Fulton County Humane Society (FCHS), animals are never euthanized due to space or length of stay. Every animal in our care has a home with us until they are placed through our adoption program.
As a closed-admission shelter, we take in only the animals we can responsibly care for. As a small, underfunded rural shelter, we rely on a limited volunteer staff; however, that doesn’t stop us from making a significant impact in our community and beyond.
While we are committed to giving every animal the best possible chance at life, there are rare instances when humane euthanasia is necessary—either to prevent suffering from untreatable illness or to ensure the safety of people and other animals. These decisions are never made lightly and are always in the animal’s best interest.
We take pride in the work we do every day. In 2023 and 2024, FCHS achieved a placement rate of over 90% and was recognized by Best Friends Network for our lifesaving efforts.
Since 1981, we have been rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming animals in Fulton County and the surrounding areas. We also focus on community education, pet assistance programs, and responsible pet ownership. As part of our commitment to reducing pet overpopulation, we partner with Humane Ohio to provide low-cost spay/neuter transport to Toledo, Ohio every month.
Your support makes this life-saving work possible—thank you for being a part of our mission!
FCHS: A Place of Hope and Healing

At FCHS, our shelter is more than just a temporary stop—it’s a place filled with love, care, and second chances.
While the idea of an animal waiting for a forever home can be heartbreaking, our dedicated volunteers and staff work tirelessly to ensure every dog and cat feels safe, valued, and loved. Many of our animals have endured hardship, but we provide the medical care, comfort, and enrichment they need to heal and thrive. Whether playing, snuggling, or simply offering a kind touch, we make sure every pet in our care knows they matter.
